Planning And Designing Your Website....
Before designing your Web site, Silver Thread will find out as much
as possible about your business. This begins with a free consultation,
after all, there is nobody who knows your business like you do.
1.
As a first step it is useful to see what businesses of a similar
nature have on their website.
2. Ask your customers what would be useful to them.
3. Ask staff what they would like to see on your website.
The
following are some ideas to consider:
Cover
Page
Is sometimes used and is very graphical and attractive. It can be
likened to the front cover of a book. Also contains hidden keywords
and meta tags for search engines use.
Navigation
Usually found at the top or left-hand side of the page. It is an
very important aspect of the design. There is no point having a
great looking site if no one can find their way around it.
Speed
How fast will your site download? How many graphics should you use.
Most customers are looking for fast loading information packed sites.
Introduction (or First Page if cover page is not used)
Welcome message and general information about your business. This
is where you would place special announcements and features.
Contact Page
Details of who and how your business can be contacted. Key Personnel,
Address, phone, email, location map, feedback form.
Profile Page
An overview of your business. History, areas of expertise, mission
statement etc.
Information Page
Can contain FAQ's, technical references etc. A page that is helpful
to your customers needs.
Links Page
For associated businesses. Reciprocal links are a terrific way to
get other sites to link to your web site. This can also help to
gain you a higher ranking with search engines.
Policies and Procedures
This can include warranty details, guarantees, returns policies
etc.
